"Let's Paint"

A Little History~~~~~

In 1973 the first chapter meeting was held with 59 members paying annual dues, officers were elected and committee chairpersons selected.  In 1974 the Chapter hosted the second annual NSTDP Convention in Arlington, TX at the Inn of Six Flags on May 3-5.  Approximately 600 attended.

On May 7, 1975 at the Tulsa Convention, Bluebonnet had the honor of being the first affiliated NSTDP Chapter.

In 1988 the Chapter co-hosted with the Yellow Rose and Fort Worth Tole and Decorative Painting Chapters, the 16th National Convention.  It was held at the Anatole Hotel in Dallas Texas.  Approximately 3000 attended the week of classes, trade show and programs.

What the Chapter is doing now~~~~

The Bluebonnet chapter meets bi-monthly on the second Thursday of alternating months beginning in January.  The annual meeting is held in November and officers are elected for the following year.

Usually there is a morning workshop starting at 9 a.m., lunch following and the meeting starts at 12:30 p.m., followed by a program.  The chapter provides the "meat" of the lunch hour and volunteers  bring the "potatoes", actually salad, chips and assorted extras that will go with sandwiches.

At least one major fund raiser is held annually for the chapter.  In 2004 the chapter published a cookbook "I'd Rather be Painting Cookbook". The chapter does several service projects each year.  The Chapter has been participating in the Memory Box Program for several years, donating painted boxes to local Hospitals.  The Memory Box Artist Program began in June 1998  to provide boxes to hospitals for the families of infants that pass away in the hospital.  To date the program has provided more than 40,000 boxes for infant bereavement programs.    Click here for more information on memory box program.  Christmas in July each year finds the members painting favors for Meals on Wheels to be put on the trays.  Each year a fall party is held at the home of Pat Waymon.  In 2005 the chapter is planning a "painting Cruise".
